When it comes to construction, it seems that the grass is greener overseas
Despite the massive downturn in the construction industry, leading Rec2Rec company Futura is having no problem finding work for people – overseas.
Deep-seated problems in the economy tend to hit specific industries, and one of the hardest hit at the moment is the construction industry. Big-name companies are laying off large numbers of people, and some companies are closing completely.
Yet, for many people within construction, there are still many very attractive job options. Futura, the Northwest’s leading Rec2Rec company, says that it is finding work for many people overseas.
“Although the current economic climate is thought of as being a global recession,” said Futura’s managing director John Whalley, “it’s really hitting the UK and USA the hardest – and especially the construction industry in the UK. However, we’re experiencing a significant upturn in business from overseas.”
Indeed, some markets, such as oil and gas, have not been significantly hit by the recession, and this creates opportunities for construction professionals such as architects and consultants. “For some,” says Whalley, “it means moving into a new industry and perhaps a new country – but the opportunities are there, and are excellent.”
“Of course it’s tough when the industry you are in is struggling,” concludes Whalley, “but there are lots of options for talented people. In this case, the grass is greener overseas. Much greener!”
