What a week!

Arsenal concede 6 for only the third time in the Premiership history. City concede more to Arsenal than they had done to every other home opponent all season put together. Liverpool put 5 past Spurs without either Sturridge or Gerrard. (Spurs had only conceded 6 goals in their first 10 games but have conceded 15 goals in their last 5 games). Everton try and emulate City and put 4 past Fulham. ManYoo actually win a game and the biggest surprise of all, Danny Welbeck scores his first Premiership goals since the opening day of the season and Tom "none to" Cleverly scores his first for over a year. Predict that!

In our league, Jay Egersdorff reconfirmed his hold on the top spot with an outstanding 85 points despite not having Aguero as his captain. Pari Passu’s Bernie Wilcox slid further down the league as Lee Mitchell replaced him at 2nd. Interestingly, only Lee and Andrew Midgley (fresh from rerecording Careless Whisper with George Michael) chose Suarez as their captain. We doubt if anyone will make that mistake again despite Liverpool playing City away on Boxing Day. Suarez has now been the top FL points scorer in 50% of the games he’s played in. Amazing.

The top 10 are as follows:

Jay Egersdorff

Lee Mitchell

Bernie Wilcox, Pari Passu

Sachin Ruparella

Lawrence Chilver

Andrew Midgely

Phu Ngoc

Matt Beedle

Dan Ryan

Eddie Dowling

Manager of the Week

Both Consol’s Mark Cohen and Andy Dunne share 94 points this week, but the award has to go to Mark because of his inspired choice of Liverpool’s 13 pointer, Jon Flanagan who got a goal and a clean sheet. We’d never even heard of him before! Andy could have broke the ton, but had Cardiff midfielder Pete Whittingham as his third sub. Whittingham scored 11 points this week. Well done Mark.

At 51st place and an amazing 97 points we find the man with no team name, Richie Gill. Another 5 points would have put him on page 1 and won him MOTW. Obviously, Richie had Suarez as his captain but the surprise was former FL favourite, Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross who gained Richie 9 points. Shawcross has scored 25 points in the past 5 games and at £5.4m might be worth a look at.

Great choice Richie.

Taxi for...........

Jose Fonte

Just a few short weeks ago, Southampton were everyone’s defensive darlings having conceded a mere 3 goals upto the end of October. Fonte was everyone’s favourite Saints player being selected by over a fifth of all managers. Southampton’s bubble has well and truly burst now with 10 goals against in the last 5 games and no clean sheets since they beat Fulham on October 26. Although Fonte was dropped for the Newcastle match on Saturday, his replacement Jos Hooiveld made a huge gaffe to enable Newcastle to score and we think that Fonte will be back in the side next week. So what? The party is well and truly over on the south coast. Our advice would be to swap him out for Joel Ward; the £4.0m lad whose making all the headlines at Fonte’s old club Palace, with the proviso that you drop him for the away game at City on the Saturday after Christmas.
