Strikers' dilemma

Now then. We've been away for 5 whole gameweeks but whilst things have changed at the top of the EPL in our league it's much of a muchness with the usual suspects still hogging the top 10. Come on you guys in the bubbling under positions - put a bit more effort in!

We’ve all had somewhat of a striker dilemma with Sturridge being out since week 12 and Aguero being out since week 16. Housewives’ choice, RvP has only played one game since week 11 and looks like he’s saving himself for the World Cup now. Rooney seems to be stuttering despite his fine performances and so who have us managers turned to in our hour of need? Apart from Suarez the most popular strikers are Lukaku (35 points, 32% of teams), Giroud (18, 21%), Negredo (30, 18%) and Remy (25, 14%). We’ve ignored RvP who is still the 5th most popular striker propped up by those who don’t take the FL seriously. Of course it may all change next week with Aguero set to have a run out in City’s FA Cup replay against Blackburn and Sturridge already getting himself a goal and an assist in his 25 minutes against Stoke on Sunday.

In our league nothing much has changed and the top 10 are as follows:

Jay Egersdorff

Sachin Ruparella

Phu Ngoc

Lee Mitchell

Bernie Wilcox, Pari Passu

Lawrence Chilver

Matt Beedle

Andrew Midgely

Dan Ryan

Manager of the Week

Back in week 11, Neil Kane’s N Kane Dons were in 91st place and winning the Page 2 Pacesetter award. Now Neil’s in the big league at 21st place on Page 1 and is this week’s Manager of the Week. What an improvement!

Neil is of course one of those fanatics who pays £15 pa to get tips from Fantasy Football Scout and we have to say that on this showing, it’s money well spent. Neil’s midfield of Gerrard, Lallana, Hazard and Eriksen really did the business for him scoring a total of 36 points. It’s a shame he selected Adebayor as his captain over Suarez. What was he thinking?

Well done Neil.

Page 2 Pacesetter

At 62nd place and an amazing 87 points we find a complete newcomer to these pages, Paul Anderson. Paul has done some clever transfer business over the past few weeks swapping Coleman for Baines and Ramsey for Hazard. Paul also preferred £6.7m Dzeko to £9.9m Negredo to replace Aguero and although Negredo has scored 4 more points over that period, he is of course much more expensive. Is he likely to get a game going forward though with Aguero sure to be back at the weekend?

Great choices Paul.

Simon Mignolet

Mignolet is the most picked goalie in the league with 36% of managers selecting him however he’s fallen from grace somewhat and currently lies 10th in the form tables averaging less than 3 points a game over the last 9 games. Our advice is to swap him out for Mannone, Speroni or Foster who not only are performing better, are considerably cheaper but are also selected by very few managers therefore giving you that vital edge for the second half of the season.

The Dream Team

The Dreamteam is the best combination of players that you can pick that week. It’s always a good clue to up and coming players that few managers have picked which is important for those of you not in the top ten because you’re never going to make it by picking the same players as the top managers. Looking for value in unpopular but high performing players is essential if you’re going to make progress.

Interesting week where there is only one striker in a dream team that throws up endless questions. Is Kolarov better value than Zabaleta? He’s been in the dream team more often and certainly gets the assists and takes those free kicks that Yaya doesn’t fancy but he doesn’t always get a game. Can Adam Johnson build upon his fantastic 22 points or is he going to disappoint us all yet again and is his Sunderland teammate, Ki Sung-Yueng the best value midfielder in the league? Is Baines too expensive or like Suarez, one of those players that you can’t afford not to have and who the hell is Adrian? Finally could Smoking Jack Wilshere take over from Aaron Ramsey? 20 points in 3 games says he may have a chance but Ramsey’s due back shortly.
