Forwards don’t deliver the points yet again...

With 9 teams out of 20 claiming clean sheets and only Palace (has anyone got a Palace striker in their team?), Swansea and City scoring more than one goal, it was definitely a week where good defences won out. However, it’s unlikely that our managers actually predicted this as out of our top 10, only Dave Cattell and Jay Egersdorff went for 4 at the back and nobody went for 5 to maximise on it. When it came to captains, RvP was not only the most captained player but also the most vice captained – away at Liverpool who have yet to concede a goal and without anyone to lay the ball at his feet. Strange!

This week’s top ten managers are as follows:

Jon Pheasant

Matt Beedle

Rick Foster

Dave Cattell

Jay Egersdorff

Jack Wilcox, Bauhaus

Lance Bateman

Seb Gartside

Gary Chapman

Glenn Southman

Manager of the Week

The aforementioned Dave Cattell was the only manager to clear 70 points this week. Dave is a veteran of our league having consistently featured in the top 10 all last season. Dave had a four-man defence and chose Yaya Toure as his captain bringing him 22 points for Yaya alone. He even managed to get some decent points off his strikers with Sturridge bringing in 8. Like a lot of us, he’s still persisting with Coutinho and wondering when he is actually going to deliver. Coutinho was actually one of the most transferred out players in the whole league last week. Could he be one of those players who gets the “assist before the assist” we wonder.

The Dream Team

The Dreamteam is the best combination of players that you can pick that week. It’s always a good clue to up and coming players that few managers have picked which is important for those of you not in the top ten because you’re never going to make it by picking the same players as the top managers. Looking for value in unpopular but high performing players is essential if you’re going to make progress

Could Ben Arfa be regaining his form of 2 seasons ago? Is Dwight Gayle an option for a cheap third striker (he’s the second Palace striker to be in the DT in the past 2 weeks) and is Nathan Redmond an alternative to Ross Barklay for your 5th midfielder? He certainly looked good on MOTD.

Taxi for...........

Edin Dzeko

Although he’s had an excellent pre-season and had 2 good games out of 3, Dzeko isn’t cutting the mustard with City fans who notice a complete change in the attitude of the team when Negredo comes on to replace him. It’s significant that Pellegrini replaced Dzeko at half time on Saturday rather than the normal 65 minutes. We think he’s pacified Dzeko until the end of the transfer window by giving him a start and now wants his own man leading the line.

Do you have a colleague that wants to join the league?

The deadline for new entrants joining our league is 1130 on 28th September. Of course, it’s a little late for those who haven’t yet got a team but if those of you in office leagues could get the word out we’d appreciate it.

“I approached Tim and Futura when I was considering new career opportunities. Tim and his colleagues took the time to listen to what exactly I was looking for and what I wanted to move away from. I was presented with a number of opportunities all of which matched my requirements. I was able to secure a new position quickly and am convinced I have made the right move for my career. The process was smooth trouble free thanks to the support Tim provided. I would recommend Tim and Futura to anybody who is looking for make a move.”
