Time to play your CHIPS

With only 5 Gameweeks left and even less Double Gameweeks those of us who haven't played our CHIPS need to prepare quickly.

The three chips you can play this season are Bench Boost, Triple Captain and All Out Attack.

When you play your Bench Boost chip you gain points for every member of your squad including both goalies. Obviously, you need to play it when you have a big double Gameweek (DGW) ahead. You’ll also want to ensure that you get most value out of it, which means that your entire squad needs to be players that will actually get a game.

With Triple Captain, you really are in the lap of the Gods. How many times have we captained Aguero for him to score 2 points after coming off the bench. It’s bad enough getting it wrong when its double points but triple? The mind boggles.

All Out Attack (AOA) means that you can change your formation for one GameWeek only into 2-5-3, i.e. have only two defenders and replace them with your bench midfielders or attackers.

The received wisdom from the fantasy league geeks is that this chip is the least valuable of the lot. Nobody seems to know what they might do with it. It probably isn’t worth wasting a Double GameWeek on it when the returns for Triple Captain and Bench Boost for those weeks seem so much better. For most of us, the likelihood of us having a decent midfielder languishing on the bench who is could gain more points than our third best defender is remote.

We think the only time you would use it is if three of your defenders are facing the likes of Leicester, Spurs and Arsenal away in the same GameWeek. Please also bear in mind that you can’t play two chips or a chip and a wildcard at once.

In our league, the Top 10 are as follows:

Mike Bernard

Alan Furley

Andrew Dyson

Neil Kane

Natasha Wilcox, FuturaRec2Rec

Jay Egersdorff

Matt Newman

Paul Cellini

Phil Dancey

George Bartlett

Manager of the Week

Steve King.......

Last time we saw Steve King he was the Page 2 Pacesetter at this very time last season having also won the Best of the Rest award. Well it’s taken some time but he’s eventually made it to Page 1 and not only that, won MOTW with an absolutely fantastic 93 points. He got 18 points alone from Palace goalie, Wayne Hennessey who played brilliantly with a DGW and 2 clean sheets. Add another 20 points from his 3-man defence and Sanchez and Alli backing up Aguero and Vardy and that’s your 93.

What a brilliant week Steve. Top 10 next season

Page 2 Pacesetter

Andrew Midgley......

With a scintillating 101 points in 52nd place, we find Andrew Midgley. Just two and a half short years ago, George Michael’s partner in Wham was 5th in our league. Since then, running a highly successful recruitment company in a booming market have taken their toll on his FL ambitions (or was it the never ending decline of his beloved Manchester United?), but he’s come back with a vengeance. 101 points is not to be sniffed at. Andrew was helped by his BB CHIP, which brought him 18 points and 11 off Sigurdsson alone.

Can you make it to Page 1 Andrew? Only time will tell.

The Best of the Rest

Wes Farrington, KPI Recruiting.........

Can you believe that in Week 14 of this very season, KPI Recruiting’s Wes Farrington was 8th in our league? He’s now 131st. How did that happen? He’s done a Leeds United on us, all in one season. But he’s on his way back now with a Best of the Rest award for his very commendable 89 points without a CHIP being played. He did, however have 3 Palace players whose DGWs brought him 40 points alone plus his 5 for Lennon’s DGW.

If Wes played a CHIP, he might make Page 2 at this rate.

Taxi for...........

Thibaut Courtois.......

Incoming Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has reportedly decided to sell the Belgian stopper in the summer and has asked Guus Hiddink to play Asmir Begovic until the end of the season so he can assess if he’s good enough to be first choice. At £5.3m you can use that cash better elsewhere.

Get him binned!

One to watch..........

Danny Simpson..........

35 points in the last 5 games, first choice for his club which look like they’re going to win the league, £4.2m and just a 7% ownership. Why is Danny Simpson so cheap?

No Brainer!

Team names please

The reason we ask for your agency name as part of your team name is because it’s the only way we can ensure that we are paying the prizes out to the correct managers and that those managers are genuinely in the recruitment industry.

With the latest hacking of our league from semi-professional FL-ers, its even more important. Please help us manage the league better by doing this.

However, those of you who aren’t putting in your team names are missing out on some great publicity for your agency and, as recruiters tend to be competitive creatures, isn’t it better to beat you rivals in business AND in the fantasy league?
